Exploring short wave radio
Mood:  happy
Topic: HAM Radio
My passion with radio lead to the purchase of classy shortwave radio - Sony ICF-SW7600GR World Band Receiver Radio with Single Side Band Reception.

Pretty slick with good performance. Enjoying catching waves from remote corners of the world.

Also bought 2004 shortwave guide to systematically track remote transmissions.

Cheers !

Books
Topic: HAM Radio
Two good books to get started with HAM Radio.
1)Now you are talking by www.arrl.org
2) HAM radio for dummier By Ward Silver

Both of these are quite good and very easy to read. The first one is good to preapre for technician license exam. It contains the complete question pool.

Good source for all HAM related info - www.arrl.org

Cheers !

HAM Radio
Topic: HAM Radio
OK, got the book to prepare for HAM license exam. Gotta do it before the enthu evaporates for HAM.

Have heard about IRPL -Internet Radio Linking project ? It's a cool thing at www.irpl.net where by you can listen HAM radio communication on the net. This is similar to trying to catch some HAM communication on some obscure spot on short wave band of regular radio. Oh, yeah- I remember that. Based an article in 'Taranga' which mentioned that one can hear HAM communications on reugular shortwave on Sundays at odd times, I had tried it on my Murphy radio in 1987 and was successful in listening some feeble communication.

But, now IRPL.Net is cool. If anyone is active, you can listen to without problem. Today morning happen to listen to a world war II veteran and he was funny indeed.

Cheers !
