Abu & Umm
Topic: Trivia
After hearing about so many Abus such as Abu Iyad, Abu Yusuf, Abu Mazin, Abu Jihad etc...., question may arise what's this prefix and its significance....

In Arab world, when a son is born, his father gets the proud prefix of Abu . So, Abu Hasan means Father of Hasan. Abu Hasan was the formal name of "red prince" Ali Hasan Salemeh, debonair terrorist....Abu Jihad did not have son called Jihad but was know as father of holy war (Jihad)....Abu Nidal had a son called Nidal....and so on...it is not clear to me what happens if a guy has more than one son....eldest son gets priority???

Umm is a similar prefix used for women when she gives birth to a boy....Umm Nazir (mother of Nazir....wife of Abu Nazir, deputy of Abu Nidal executed on the charges of treachery)

As in many societies, there is a special place of men(rightly or wrongly) and male kids are looked upon to bring reputation to their parents...in Arab world, if guy fathers only girls, it's not uncommon for people to joke behind his back by saying something Abu al-banna (?)....father of only girls....

Trivia...trivia....much useless anyway!

Cheers!

Oldest recorded child marraige in the history of India
Topic: Trivia
Few bits of interesting (or useless) trivia....

Probably one and only one and the oldest recorded child marriage in Indian scriptures is the marriage of Lord Rama to Sita.....according to Bannanje Govindacharya's discourse on Valmiki Ramayana....Rama was 12 and Sita was 7.

Ravana did not molest Sita not because he was very respectful of women (as described in some books) but he had a curse that he would die the moment he had a forcibal union with a woman.

Ravana was a half-brahmin....his father was a brahmin and mother was a rakshasa....but demonic genes overrode anything brahmin.....

Uberois
Topic: Trivia
Uberoi sisters are in news recently for their tennis prowess.

But, there is a very interesting trivia. Do you know that well known Indian movie actor Vivek Oberoi is their first cousin? I was surprised too....

Vivek's father Suresh Oberoi (legendary character actor with booming voice) and Mahesh(oh ho)Uberoi are brothers....

Uberoi sisters are 5 in total. All are into tennis. Last two are twins still very young. This family has the potential to generate tennis aces similar to Venus family. Good luck to them!

There is a piece of trivia about why Vivek uses Oberoi instead of Uberoi. It seems that's how he ended up signing his first film and became very superstitious about that after its success.

All this info can be found on the net (just so that you know I am not making it up. Why would I anyway?)

Cheers!
