Big Picture Investing
Big Picture Investing- part of modern day scholar series.
Very nice 7 CD course taught by Prof. Peter Navarro.
Very educational. Leant quite a bit despite that I am fairly finance savvy. Good points on technical analysis.
A lot of 'how to' tips.
Strongly recommended if you want to start investing.
But, unless one can spend a lot of time doing research, one is better off sticking with mutual funds.
Despite so much time spent researching, added up trading costs etc. etc, what is the upside potential over a very long period of time (say > 20 years)? Not much more than overall market performance that is 8% year to year adjusted for inflation.
Other two good books are - Random Walk on Wall Street and Stocks for the Long run and Irrational Excuberance.
After having read so much about stock markets, I am convinced that one should invest in stock market but diversify a lot.
What is better than inexpensive natually diversified index funds in variety of categories. You will reap the benefits over the long term at a nominal expense ratio.
Do not forget to have an international mutual funds in your portfolio.
Cheers !
